New Zealand Dollar Gains for 2nd Day

On Wednesday, the New Zealand dollar appreciated to approximately $0.574, building on the gains from the previous session. This uptick in value was spurred by optimism regarding U.S. President Donald Trump's tempered stance on tariffs. On Monday, President Trump suggested a selective implementation of his proposed tariff increases slated for April 2, also intimating possible exemptions, though specifics were not disclosed. Additionally, S&P Global Ratings forecasted that New Zealand, along with other regional economies, is likely to experience a limited impact from U.S. trade policies. Nonetheless, domestically, the New Zealand dollar remains under pressure due to anticipated further monetary easing. The Reserve Bank of New Zealand has indicated plans for two 25 basis point rate cuts in April and May, with a potential additional reduction later in the year.
