U.S. stock futures experienced a downturn on Tuesday as investors prepared for President Donald Trump's imminent tariff announcements. On the previous day, the Dow Jones Industrial Average and the S&P 500 saw increases of 1% and 0.55%, respectively, whereas the Nasdaq Composite decreased by 0.14%. This mixed performance highlights persistent worries about economic growth and mounting trade tensions. Anxiety in the markets intensified following Trump's indication of expanding trade barriers, promising to implement reciprocal tariffs on all trading partners. Despite this uncertainty, 10 out of the 11 sectors within the S&P 500 ended the session in positive territory, with consumer staples, financials, and utilities topping the list. Conversely, the consumer discretionary sector was the sole decliner. Within the group of prominent tech stocks often referred to as the "Magnificent Seven," Tesla (-1.7%), Nvidia (-1.2%), Microsoft (-0.9%), Meta (-0.1%), and Amazon (-1.3%) all saw decreases, while Apple (1.9%) and Alphabet (0.1%) recorded modest gains.
