Costa Rica Current Account Deficit Gap Expands in Q4 2024

In the fourth quarter of 2024, Costa Rica experienced a widening of its current account deficit, reaching USD 652 million, compared to USD 371.8 million in the same quarter the previous year. The primary account deficit also increased, rising to USD 2,140 million from USD 1,782 million. However, the deficit in the goods account decreased, reaching USD 554 million, with an improvement of USD 554 million. In contrast, the services account surplus reduced to USD 1,922 million from USD 2,148 million, and the secondary account surplus saw a decrease to USD 326 million from USD 306 million.
