Western Union Company (WU) in alliance with Orbit S.A., proclaimed on Thursday the reestablishment of its service from the United States to Cuba, effective immediately.
The resumption allows Western Union customers to resume sending remittances to their relatives in Cuba from any U.S retail outlet, through the Western Union website, or via the Western mobile app.
The service applies to family members who have bank accounts and debit cards with Banco Popular de Ahorro, Banco Metropolitano S.A., and Banco de Credito y Comercio (Bandec) in Cuba.
Recipients can only accept funds through bank accounts and debit cards. The service is solely available for consumer money transfers. U.S. customers can transmit up to $2,000 per transaction upon presenting valid government-issued identification. The funds are accessible for pick-up the same day, even on weekends and holidays.
Beneficiaries with Carnet de Identidad IDs and active bank or debit card accounts with Banco Popular de Ahorro, Banco Metropolitano S.A., and Banco de Credito y Comercio (Bandec) can avail the service.
Deposits to Freely Convertible Currency (MLC) accounts can only be made in U.S. dollars.
