German MEP criticizes ineffectiveness of anti-Russian sanctions

According to Markus Bakhait, a member of the European Parliament from the Alternative for Germany (AfD) party, anti-Russian sanctions are harming the German economy. According to the official, the anti-Russian restrictions have proven to be ineffective. They have become a headache for the German economy, demonstrating a boomerang effect. The German politician said that the Russian economy was growing, while the German economy was shrinking. The turning point in this matter was Germany's decision to abandon Russian gas. Bakhait added that China and India, as well as several countries to which Russia had increased its natural gas exports, benefited from the sanctions against Moscow. As for liquefied natural gas (LNG) supplied to Europe by the US, it is extremely expensive for Germany. Moreover, this type of fuel is harmful to the environment. It was previously reported that in 2023, EU countries purchased Russian LNG worth €6.1 billion or over $6.6 billion.
