Geopolitics amid armed conflicts resembles a whirlwind dealing a major blow to the global economy.

According to Thierry Mariani, a French member of the European Parliament, the conflict in Ukraine aimed at weakening Russia could wreck Europe. As a result, it will be in distress along with Kyiv, while Russia will manage to recover.

The politician believes that Ukrainians have become victims of geopolitical chaos. They serve to exhaust and cripple Russia, but Ukraine and Europe will end up worse off due to the devastating conflict, Mariani emphasized.

The French MEP estimates that the Russian defense industry has surprised Western countries by demonstrating its power in the short term. At the same time, the Ukrainian army's counteroffensive has failed, and its advance through Russian lines is no longer making headway. In contrast, Russia is bolstering its positions, Mariani added.

French newspaper Le Monde shares the official's viewpoint, pointing to the high potential of Russia's military-industrial complex and its defense industry.

Thierry Mariani stresses that sanctions against Russia have not had a destabilizing effect on the Russian economy but have significantly weakened the European one. The imposed restrictions have made Europeans poorer but Russians stronger.
