Sam Altman, whose company OpenAI developed the AI-based platform ChatGPT, thinks that the US authorities downplay the significance of their involvement in the crypto world. The entrepreneur is worried about the government’s aggressive rhetoric on digital assets as a whole and Bitcoin in particular.

Amid a barrage of lawsuits against crypto firms, OpenAI co-founder and CEO raises the alarm on the outlook for Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies. Sam Altman is disappointed that government agencies have stepped up pressure on almost all digital assets.

“I am disappointed by the US government's war on cryptocurrencies. This reluctance to let go of the reins makes me sad about the country,” Altman lamented. The stance of the OpenAI CEO mirrors the mounting anxiety of crypto apologists and leaders of the industry. The crypto community is unnerved that regulators are giving hell to crypto firms and exchanges. The US Securities and Exchange Commission is targeted for the recent crackdown.

“I am very worried about how far the surveillance state could go here,” Sam Altman said earlier. The state is prone to supervise all financial activity. OpenAI's chief executive also voiced his disapproval of the central bank's concept of digital currencies. Previously, US legislators brought up the issue of introducing central bank digital currencies (CBDCs), but most of them defined this idea as premature. In this context, the entrepreneur shared his optimism about Bitcoin, highlighting the importance of a global currency which is not subject to centralized regulation.

“The real fascinating crypto is bitcoin, that’s the one that I think has the most likely possibility of becoming a universal currency…and I love the fact that it's being implemented”, he said. The idea of a global currency beyond the control of any authorities is a super logical and crucial step for the further advance of innovative technology.

Sam Altman was roasted by Bitcoin fans for his controversial crypto project, Worldcoin. The goal is to set up a worldwide database of people by scanning their eyes in exchange for crypto Worldcoin (WLD). Most crypto enthusiasts suspect the misuse of confidential information and question the ethics of the project.
