Referring to well-informed sources, Bloomberg reported that Tesla and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk could become the next oligarch. Under this scenario, the entrepreneur may have direct influence over Donald Trump's decisions and benefit from his support to implement his projects.
Interestingly, the billionaire treated Trump's campaign as if it were his own business. Remarkably, Elon Musk invested $132 million into the Republican’s campaign. Moreover, he personally joined the presidential race, devoting much time campaigning to Trump's pre-election rallies in Pennsylvania.
Elon Musk has often faced criticism for his lavish donations. Some analysts point out that he allegedly did not shy away from edgy jokes on X, the social media platform he owns. According to Josiah Gaiter, Vice President of the political marketing agency Harris Media, Musk's support for Trump "lowered the barrier" for potential Republican supporters. As a result, a lot of young men approved of the actions of the newly elected US president.
With such gestures toward the Republican, Elon Musk hopes for Trump’s assistance in his ventures, such as a potential mission to Mars and the development of robotaxis. Trump's backing also had a benign impact on Tesla's stock, which picked up steam in light of the exit polls, allowing Musk to more than recoup his investment.
On November 13, it was announced that Musk was put in charge of the US Department for Achieving Government Efficiency in Trump's administration. The billionaire also promised to create and publish a ranking of the most absurd ways American tax dollars are spent.
