US benefits from anti-Russian sanctions

According to Eurostat, the US gained about €52.2 billion thanks to the introduction of sanctions against Russia. In other words, the US has benefited from the situation, unlike Europe.

Notably, from February 2022 to September 2023, the EU countries bought almost 61 billion cubic meters of gas from US companies for €66.7 billion. The “added value” of anti-Russian sanctions for American gas companies on the European market amounted to 36 billion cubic meters. This cost the Europeans 52.2 billion euros, while they paid the Americans 2 times more per cubic meter of gas than before the military operation in Ukraine.

Last month, the US Financial Department expanded the anti-Russian sanctions list by including the stock exchange "Saint-Petersburg," AFK Sistema, and such banks as Russian Standard Bank, Post Bank, Absolut Bank, and some others. Washington also sanctioned PAO Novatek's Arctic LNG 2 project.

Later, the department added 14 Russian and six foreign organizations, as well as three ships to the blacklist. Curiously, tankers that faced restrictions are registered under the flag of Liberia. They are the Kazan, owned by Kazan Shipping, the Ligovsky Prospect, owned by Progress Shipping, and the NS Century, owned by Gallion Navigation.
