A retirement home in one of the districts of Singapore was considered the best project by experts. This multi-level building consists of a health center, a hospital, a nursing home, a cultural center, parks, and public areas. It became one of the greenest buildings in the world. Thanks to the effective implementation of multi-tiered open areas, more than 125 percent of the area allocated for the building was greened.
The jury of the festival was amazed by how architects managed to create large-scale living gardens in the metropolis which can serve as a model for ensuring universal conditions of longevity.
Piedras Bayas Beachcamp on the Chilean coast won in the Small Project of the Year nomination. Piedras Bayas is located in the Atacama Desert. All rooms of the building have a beautiful view over the ocean, and the open dining area also overlooks the ocean.
The Yumin Art Nouveau Collection was named the World Interior of the Year 2018. Yumin Art Nouveau is a collection of art nouveau glass. In the interior design, according to the canons of art galleries, attention is paid to the works themselves. The judges were impressed by both the special sensitivity of the light and the building in which the collection is located. The building was designed by Japanese architect Ando Tadao who is known for using natural forms of landscapes in architecture.
In the Landscape of the Year nomination, the judges noted the design of a pedestrian path made by Batlle i Roig Arquitectura. They created a route along the gypsum mines in Barcelona using inexpensive materials.
A plan of parks along the river in Colombia was named the future project of the year. Architects Sebastian Monsalve and Juan David Hoyos presented the master plan of Medellin River Parks and the Botanical Park.
The Glass Future prize went to architects from Studio Gang who developed a project of reconstruction of the famous Tour Montparnasse in Paris. The monolithic construction will receive a new glass shell, thanks to which the skyscraper will become a new landmark in the French capital.
The Länsisalmi power plant in Finland is the winner in the nomination "Production, energy, and recycling".
At the festival, the work of the Russian architectural bureau, Studio 44, was also awarded. The project of the museum-exhibition complex “Defense and Siege of Leningrad” was recognized as the best project of 2018 in the nomination "Culture".
The Belarusian church in London, designed by architect Tszwai So, became the best religious building.
The jury recognized the Muku kindergarten project in Japan as the best school building.
