Huntsman has twice before served as an ambassador. He was the nation's top diplomat to Singapore under President George H.W. Bush and then served in that role in China under President Barack Obama. In 2012, John Huntsman ran for the post of US president from the Republican Party. But soon after the start of the election campaign, he announced his resignation.
