An estimated fifty thousand protesters took to the streets, requesting the Sorin Grindeanu government resigning. The demonstration was held at the Victory Square in the center of Bucharest. People called for resistance and stated that they will not protect the ministers and want to work in peace.
This did little to stem anger as Prime Minister Sorin Grindeanu still appears determined to push through the amendments to the criminal codes
According to Reuters, at 19:00 GMT, the protesters took out red, yellow and blue sheets of paper and formed a huge Romanian flag.Protests in Romania have begun on February 1, when the government issued a decree on amnesty corrupt people. In addition, the authorities have decided on the decriminalization of crimes of corruption, if proven damages not to exceed 50 thousand euros.
The Cabinet of Ministers explained this decision by the need to relieve prisons.
The opposition said that the social-democratic government is trying to release from prisons their companions who were previously convicted for corruption.
Under the pressure of protesters the officials withdrew their decree, but now they need the consent of Parliament.
The protesters demand the full resignation of the current government as, according to their words, they can't trust such authority anymore.
Today, amid protests, only the Minister of Business, Trade and Entrepreneurship Florin Jianu and Minister of Justice of the state Florin Iordache resigned.
