A new form of transport can be seen on the roads of Moscow. It's a low-floor electric bus of new generation created by Russian scientists. Department of Transportation of the capital gave permission for its trial.
Electric bus operation is checked on the basis of the Mosgortrans company. It began to run on the M2 bus route linking the western districts of Moscow with the transport hub in the city center on Slavyanskaya Square.
The new vehicle will be tested during six months. The route chosen by the Moscow authorities is highly loaded with traffic, thus the performance of electric bus can be fully evaluated.
The new electric bus is designed on a large low-floor bus LIAZ-5292 basis. It is equipped with a battery supplying power. The new vehicle is recognized as an alternative to a large class buses with petrol, diesel and gas engines.
According to the manufacturer, the use of electric buses of this class will eliminate harmful emissions completely and increase the level of comfort for passengers by reducing noise and vibration in the cabin. At the same time operating costs will be reduced.
The electric bus is equipped with a function of electricity generation and energy storage, as well as temperature control system, which helps to keep the battery at low temperatures. Full recharge of accumulators takes 5.5 hours. Recharge requires the electrical network with a voltage of 380 volts, which is available in many trolleybus depots.
The new vehicle is remarkable for its increased environmental friendliness. The electric bus capacity is about 90 passengers. The maximum speed of this type of transport is 80 km/h.
