On Monday, January 23, Brussels was blanketed with white and creamery sheet. The reason is not a natural phenomenon, but a strike of 150 producers of dairy products.
The protest was directed against the EU policy as for dairy industry. The dairy producers from 10 states of the European Union took part in the act of protest.
The act's feature was a spraying tons of powder milk on the EU Council building. White sheet rose above the center of the city.
On Monday the meeting of the Ministers of Agriculture from the EU countries was held in Brussels. The rioters tried to invite attention of the high officials to their problems.
The dairy producers' strike was caused by the massive turn-in of hundreds of thousands of tons of powdered milk to the European market. It happened after the EU government's buying-up of farm products for extremely low prices.
The representatives of the European Comission intend to sell the part of dairy products. According to the strike's participants, it will lead to futher cost reduction of liquid milk.
During the act of protest the agricultural machinery – several dozens of tractors and combines – was driven on in the Schumann square in the center of Brussels, which backs onto the building of the European Commission and the EU Council.
