- The businessman Dmitry Rybolovlev ($7.7 billion fortune) is an owner of the one of the most famous Gustav Klimt's paintings "Water snakes II". The works of this Austrian artist are in top-10 world's most expensive pieces of art. It is not known how much did Rybolovlev pay for this precious painting. However, the experts believes that its price could be about $135 million (for such sum of, in 2006, Ronald Lauder bought the Klimt's painting "Portrait of Adele Bloch-Bauer I" that is related to the same period of the artist's work as "Water snakes II").
- Roman Abramovich ($8.7 billion fortune) has the Francis Bacon's painting "Triptych" in his collection. The businessman bought this canvas in 2008 at the Sotheby's auction in New York. These three 2-meter-by-1.5-meter paintings was bought by Abramovich for a record sum for Bacon's works for those times of $86 million. In 2013, this record was broken by Elaine Wynn - she bought "Three Studies of Lucian Freud" by Bacon for $142.4 million.
- In the private collection of Andrey Melnichenko ($8,2 billion fortune) you can find the painting of Claude Monet "The Waterlily Pond". This canvas is elevated to the rank of the best works of the late period in the works of the French artist. The painting was bought by the head of EuroHim during the Christie's auction in 2008. It is known that the businessman proposed the sum 70% higher than it was estimated originally.
- "Abstract Painting [745-2]" by the brush of Gerhard Richter is now owned by Konstantin Grigorshin ($1.09 billion fortune). It is unknown what sum was spent by the billionaire on this painting; however, the other canvases of this artist were sold for $17.4 million, $34.2 million and $46.3 million in different years at auctions.
In the early 2000s, Viatcheslav Kantor ($2.5 billion fortune) bought the painting "Self Portrait With Muse (Dream)" by Marc Chagall. It is assumed that the businessman from Russia could pay about $30 million for this piece of art.
The chairman of the Board of Directors of Alfa Bank Petr Aven ($4.6 billion fortune) found the painting by Wassily Kandinsky - "Sketch for improvisation №8» - to his taste. The businessman bought it in 2012 at Christie's auction for a record sum for the artist's paintings of $23 million.
The businessman Alexander Smuzikov ($0.6 billion fortune) is the owner of the painting by Kazimir Malevich "Rectangle and circle." Experts believe that the Russian paid about $10 million for this canvas.
There are also paintings by Pierre Auguste Renoir in the private collections of the Russian businessmen. For example, Viktor Vekselberg ($10.5 billion fortune) in 2009 bought the painting "Church of the Holy Trinity" by the artist's brush. It is assumed that the businessman paid for it about $5 million.
The Russian businessmen also like the Soviet artists - in 2014 Alexey Ananiev ($1 billion fortune) bought the painting of George Nyssa "Over the snow" at Sotheby's auction. The businessman paid for the painting a sum, which was three times higher than the estimate.
In 2013, the businessman Boris Mints ($1.2 billion fortune) became the owner of the painting by Boris Kustodiev "Venice". The canvas went under the hammer at MacDougall's auction for more than $1 million.
