China is at the top of the list of countries with the most advanced supercomputers. There are 219 heavy-duty systems or 43.8% of the total number of powerful computers in the world. Sunway TaihuLight, located in the National Computer Center in Wuxi, Jiangsu province, takes the third place among the most powerful supercomputers in the world. It is capable of performing calculations at a speed of 93,014 teraflops.
US
The second place on our list is occupied by the US. It has 116 supercomputers. Summit or OLCF-4 is the most powerful computer in the world (148,600 teraflops). It is located at Oak Ridge National Laboratory. Supercomputers at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, California (94,640 teraflops) take the second place.
Japan
Japan is on the third line of the ranking of countries with the most advanced supercomputers. Overall, the county has 29 supercomputers. AI Bridging Cloud Infrastructure is the strongest among supercomputers in Japan. It performs at 19.88 petaflops. Put into operation in 2018, the computer is built from 1088 servers that have two 20-core Xeon Gold processors and four NVIDIA Tesla V100 graphics cards inside. AI Bridging Cloud Infrastructure is located at the National Institute of Advanced Science and Technology.
France
The fourth place in the list goes to France. It has 9 supercomputers or 3.8% of the total number of supercomputers in the world. Pangea III is recognized as the most advanced of them. This system was launched at the Oil Corporation Total. Its operation requires 1.5 MW of energy - three times less compared to its predecessor. The new system increases the computing power of the equipment five times to 31.7 petaflops. It can be equated to the power of about 170 thousand laptops. Besides, Pangea III triples storage resources to 76 Pb.
UK
The UK is on the fifth place in this ranking. It has 18 supercomputers or 3.6% of the total number in the world. Cray XC40 is considered the most powerful supercomputer in the country. This is a massively parallel supercomputer of the Cray company XC series presented on the market at the end of September 2014. Its operating power is quite high.
Germany
Germany is on the sixth line in our list among the countries with the most advanced supercomputers. The country has 14 supercomputers. This is 2.8% of the total number in the world. SuperMUC-NG is the most advanced among them. What is more, this supercomputer occupies the ninth place in the world ranking. It has been operating since September 2018. The system consists of 6480 Lenovo Think System compute nodes based on Intel Xeon Scalable processors.
Ireland
Ireland takes the seventh place among the countries with the most powerful supercomputers. It owns 13 supercomputers or 2.6% of all advanced computers in the world. Lenovo C1040 is the strongest among them. Lenovo is reckoned as the market leader in the production of supercomputers. So far, it has developed 122 of the 500 most efficient computer systems in the world.
Netherlands
The Netherlands is the eight in the list. The country has 13 supercomputers or 2.6% of the total number in the world. The most powerful of them is NA3 whose operating performance is very high.
Canada
Canada is on the ninth place. The country has eight supercomputers or 1.6% of the total number in the world. Niagara is considered the most advanced among them. It is the most powerful research supercomputer in Canada which enables to process huge amounts of big data and to work with artificial intelligence technologies, climate change research, astrophysics, and etc.
Italy
Italy closes this rating. The country has 5 supercomputers. This is 1% of the total number in the world. The most powerful supercomputer in the country is HPC 4. It was developed by the Italian oil and gas company Eni. The peak performance of this computer is 18.6 PFLOPS. Its main task is to carry out seismic exploration. HPC 4 is located at the data center in Ferrera-Erbognone, Northern Italy. It is also used to reduce energy consumption and preserve the environment. Developers installed in this supercomputer air cooling instead of liquid cooling that makes it more energy efficient.
