In February 2025, Japan's current account surplus soared to JPY 4,060.7 billion, significantly surpassing JPY 2,737.1 billion from the same month the previous year. This figure exceeded market expectations of a JPY 3,800 billion increase, marking the highest on record. The goods account saw a turnaround, achieving a surplus of JPY 712.9 billion from a previous deficit of JPY 298.3 billion, propelled by a 10.4% rise in exports alongside a 1.9% drop in imports. Furthermore, the primary income surplus grew, reaching JPY 3,881.7 billion from JPY 3,499.8 billion. In contrast, the services account deficit expanded to JPY 175.5 billion from JPY 117.7 billion the year before, and the secondary income shortfall slightly increased to JPY 358.4 billion from JPY 346.7 billion.
