Retail sales in Bulgaria experienced a 2.4% increase in February 2025 compared to the same month of the previous year. This growth represents a slowdown from the 8.1% uptick recorded in January. It is the smallest increase seen since May 2024, attributable to a deceleration in sales of non-food items, which grew by 5.1% in February, down from 11% the previous month. Similarly, sales of automotive fuel rose by 11.5%, compared to a 15.5% increase in January. Conversely, the sector covering food, beverages, and tobacco experienced a 2.1% decline, contrasting with the 3.9% increase reported in January. On a seasonally adjusted basis, month-over-month retail sales registered a 1.7% decline, the steepest drop since April 2023, following a revised 0.9% fall from the preceding month.
