In January 2025, average weekly earnings for non-farm payroll employees in Canada increased by 5.5% compared to the same period last year, reaching $1,294.26. This increase comes after a 5.9% rise in December. Out of 20 sectors, 17 experienced growth in earnings. Notably, the mining, quarrying, and oil and gas extraction sector saw an 8.8% increase, bringing average earnings to $2,470. The information and cultural industries reported an 8.1% increase to $1,830, while educational services and health care and social assistance sectors reported gains of 6.1% and 5.0%, reaching $1,267 and $1,137 respectively. However, some sectors saw a decrease in earnings, with utilities experiencing a decline of 2.1% to $2,065, forestry, logging, and support slipping by 0.5% to $1,408, and construction seeing a slight decrease of 0.3% to $1,500.
