Baltic Dry Index Up to 1-Week High

The Baltic Exchange's dry bulk sea freight index, a key indicator of shipping rates for carriers of dry commodities, rose for the second consecutive day on Monday, reaching 1,652 points—its highest level since March 17. This increase of approximately 0.6% was supported by improvements across all vessel categories. The capesize index, which typically monitors the rates for vessels transporting 150,000-ton cargoes such as iron ore and coal, climbed by 0.5% to reach 2,690 points. Similarly, the panamax index, often associated with ships carrying 60,000-70,000 tons of coal or grain, saw a rise of about 1%, reaching 1,389 points. Additionally, the supramax index, which tracks smaller vessels, edged up to a four-month peak of 1,013 points.
