In February 2025, Macau experienced a 0.16% year-over-year decline in consumer prices, a shift from the 0.57% increase documented in the previous month. This event marked the first instance of consumer deflation since June 2021, primarily attributed to reduced prices in several sectors: transportation saw a drop of 4% compared to a 1.23% decrease in January, information and communication slightly eased to a decrease of 2.83% from 2.84%, while recreation, sport, and culture experienced a significant decline of 5.03% against a previous rise of 5.36%. Likewise, costs for household furnishings and services declined by 0.72%, down from a 0.62% decrease. Furthermore, the rate of price inflation slowed for food and non-alcoholic beverages, registering 0.69% as opposed to 0.88%, and for miscellaneous goods and services, which decreased from 2.68% to 2.05%. Conversely, there was an increase in prices for housing and fuels, which rose by 0.31% from 0.27%, alcoholic beverages and tobacco, spiking to 2.03% from 0.43%, and education, which increased to 1.17% from 0.73%. On a month-to-month basis, consumer prices dropped by 0.19% in February, following a 0.17% rise in January.
