Slovakia Current Account Deficit Widens Sharply

Slovakia experienced a notable increase in its current account deficit, which reached EUR 903.9 million in January 2025, up from EUR 94.7 million in the same month of the previous year. The goods account shifted into a deficit of EUR 551.9 million, a change from the surplus of EUR 259.6 million recorded in January 2024. The shortfall in primary income also grew, rising to EUR 297.9 million from EUR 286.1 million. However, there was a positive development in the services account, which saw its surplus rise to EUR 28.2 million in January 2025, compared to EUR 20 million the previous year. Additionally, the deficit in secondary income decreased to EUR 82.3 million, down from EUR 88.2 million.
