French Industrial Output Rebounds In August

In August, France's industrial production saw a resurgence, bolstered by a significant uptick in transport equipment output, according to figures released by the statistical office, INSEE, on Friday.

Monthly industrial output increased by 1.4 percent in August, surpassing the modest 0.2 percent growth observed in July and exceeding the projected 0.3 percent growth.

Specifically, manufacturing output improved by 1.6 percent, a notable turnaround from the 0.2 percent decline registered the previous month.

This surge in manufacturing output was largely fueled by "other manufacturing industries," alongside a substantial 3.3 percent hike in transport equipment production. Additionally, output in mining, quarrying, energy, and water supply rose slightly by 0.4 percent.

Construction output experienced a 0.6 percent rise, counterbalancing a 2.3 percent decline from the month prior.

Despite these gains, cumulative output for the three months leading to August was 1.1 percent lower in the manufacturing sector compared to the same period the previous year, with the overall industrial output dipping by 0.7 percent.
