TSX Ends Modestly Higher

The Canadian market concluded Monday’s trading session on a positive note, bolstered by strong performances in the real estate, healthcare, consumer discretionary, and consumer staples sectors.

Several stocks within the financials and technology sectors also experienced robust gains.

The benchmark S&P/TSX Composite Index, after dipping to 21,997.58 around midday, rallied to end the session up by 67.10 points or 0.3%, closing at 22,126.13—just shy of the day’s peak of 22,133.61.

Hut 8 Corp (HUT.TO) surged by 6.25%, while ATS Corporation (ATS.TO) increased by 3.8%. Celestica Inc (CLS.TO), Bombardier Inc (BBD.B.TO), Fairfax Financial Holdings (FFH.TO), and Morguard Corporation (MRC.TO) posted gains ranging from 2.3% to 3%.

Notable gainers included Alimentation Couche-Tard (ATD.TO), Constellation Software (CSU.TO), George Weston (WN.TO), Dollarama Inc (DOL.TO), Kinaxis Inc (KXS.TO), Descartes Systems Group (DSG.TO), Colliers International (CIGI.TO), and Intact Financial Corporation (IFC.TO), all advancing by 1% to 2%.

On the downside, Dayforce Inc (DAY.TO) fell by 4.7%, and Teck Resources (TECK.A.TO) decreased by 3.8%. Other decliners included Cameco Corporation (CCO.TO), Premium Brands Holdings Corporation (PBH.TO), CCL Industries (CCL.A.TO), Nutrien (NTR.TO), BRP Inc (DOO.TO), Onex Corporation (ONEX.TO), and goeasy (GSY.TO), which saw losses between 1.3% and 2.3%.
