LG Energy Solution has announced it will supply lithium iron phosphate (LFP) pouch-type electric vehicle (EV) batteries to Ampere, an innovative EV and software company established by Groupe Renault.
As part of a five-year agreement, LG Energy Solution will commence delivering LFP batteries to Ampere from late 2025 through 2030. This partnership entails a total capacity of approximately 39GWh, sufficient to produce around 590,000 battery electric vehicles.
The LFP batteries will be manufactured at LG Energy Solution's facility in Poland and will be utilized in Ampere’s next-generation EV models.
LG Energy Solution emphasized that LFP batteries, which utilize iron and phosphate, are more cost-effective compared to the materials used in nickel, cobalt, and manganese (NCM) batteries. Additionally, LFP batteries feature a stable chemical composition, ensuring competitive advantages in terms of cost and safety.
