French stocks slipped on Wednesday as investors awaited the earnings report from AI chip leader Nvidia and the release of the minutes from the Federal Reserve's recent meeting for guidance.

Diminished optimism about China's economic recovery and continued geopolitical uncertainties also caused investors to remain cautious.

The benchmark CAC 40 fell by 46 points, or 0.6 percent, to 8,095 after closing 0.7 percent lower the previous day.

Despite new car sales in the EU seeing a sharp rebound in April, automaker Renault saw its stock decline.

Industry data showed that new car registrations rose 13.7 percent year-over-year to 913,995 units in April, reversing a 5.2 percent decrease from March.

Bank stocks showed mixed performance. BNP Paribas edged down by 0.5 percent, while Credit Agricole and Societe Generale both experienced modest gains.
