Debates over the debt ceiling regularly take place in the United States. This topic constantly causes concern among the best minds in Washington.
Recently, John Rust, the Republican candidate for the US Senate from Indiana, opposed an increase in the debt ceiling. He believes that the US Congress should not raise it.
According to the politician, Congress should not approve a rise in the country's debt ceiling. He is sure that a higher debt ceiling will boost the debt burden. The Republican's assessment shows that the current situation is quite challenging. Previously, John Rust said that Republicans and the US Congress were working with Democrats to raise the debt ceiling. Nevertheless, the politician believes that it is impossible to increase the national debt without a solid reason. He called on the US authorities to reduce federal spending to stabilize the situation.
Notably, in January 2024, the US national debt exceeded $34 trillion. In 2023, this figure advanced by more than $4 trillion.
