According to US Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen, the country's public debt of $34 trillion is a "scary number." However, the official remains undaunted and encourages others to do the same. Janet Yellen stressed that the country's debt has exceeded an alarming $34 trillion. Nonetheless, the Treasury Secretary does not consider the national debt level dramatic. Moreover, Yellen noted that since the US economy was resilient and strong, and the US debt burden remained manageable. At the beginning of January 2024, the US national debt exceeded $34 trillion. According to economists, this figure grew by $4 trillion over the past year. As per current rankings, Japan leads in the volume of investments in US government bonds. In October 2023, its investments in US securities reached $1.09 trillion. China held a runner-up position with $769.6 billion, while the United Kingdom occupied the third spot with $693 billion.
