The US uses military airplanes to carry specialty infant formula due to the nationwide shortage of food for children. The White House addressed the recent crisis and President Joe Biden pledged to solve it by authorizing the use of Air Force planes for the effort. The US leader said the deficit would be tackled shortly. Military airplanes have started to ship scarce formulas from Europe to the US working around the clock. White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said that the first airplane delivered 35,000 tons of infant formula from Ramstein Air Force Base in Germany to Indianapolis on Sunday. "That's enough for more than half a million bottles...Typically, the process to transport this product from Europe to the US would take two weeks. Thanks to Operation Fly Formula, we cut that down to approximately three days," Jean-Pierre told reporters. Earlier, it was said that the country faced the shortfall just after Abbott Nutrition closed its plant since the Food and Drug Administration revealed a bacteria contamination. As a result, a large supply of baby formula was withdrawn from shelves. Currently, the shortage is estimated at 40-50%.
