Greek authorities discover outstanding taxes

The Greek authorities have revealed numerous cases of tax evasion amounting to more than 12 billion euro during the period from 2016 to the end of 2019. The Independent Authority for Public Revenue, or AADE, reported on over 7.4 thousand crimes. Presently, over 800 cases of tax evasion worth more than 1.75 billion euros have been settled. All the information about the tax crimes was passed on to the Anti-Money Laundering Authority. The remaining tax avoidance claims worth 10.4 billion euros will be considered there. More than 4,150 Greek taxpayers are suspected of money laundering. The Greek authorities will pay special attention to the issue as tax evasion and corruption have been the main reason for the recent debt crisis in the country. The Greek economy has just entered the recovery phase after the crisis. However, the country’s population has felt no improvements whatsoever. The Greek authorities hope that the tax police will settle the issue as well as people will pay their debts thus boosting the economic recovery.
