Google finally discloses YouTube revenue

Google has finally revealed the revenue of its YouTube service for the first time in almost 15 years. Google bought the video website back in 2006 and since then has been keeping its revenue numbers a secret. So, the long-awaited earnings report on the world’s largest video service has shown that YouTube is doing great in terms of profit. According to Alphabet, Google’s parent company, YouTube generated nearly $5 billion in the fourth quarter of 2019. The overall advertising revenue of the video site totalled $15 billion in 2019 which is 36,5% more than in 2018. Of course, these figures may seem not so impressive compared to Google’s overall profit as YouTube contributes only 10% to the revenue of the tech giant. Still, the results are notable, especially given the fact that the world’s most popular video hosting was acquired by Google for just $1.65 billion. Today, YouTube generates this amount of money on a daily basis. As for Alphabet Inc., the company reported quarterly revenue of $46 billion which is less than analysts’ projection. Although the net profit exceeded the estimates, the company’s stock fell more than 4% right after the report was released.
