Russia lifts ban on import of Turkish tomatoes

In Russia, healthy appetite is gradually gaining more power than the TV propaganda. It is difficult to believe in the successes which are constantly reported on TV, with an empty refrigerator. The first sign was the abolition of the ban on the supply of Turkish tomatoes. On November 1, 2017, the banned earlier fruit is to return to the Russian stores. Co-chair of the intergovernmental Russian-Turkish commission, Minister of Energy Alexander Novak, reported that Russia will lift ban on imports of Turkish tomatoes. "A decision about the possible start of supplies of 50,000 ton of tomatoes to Russia from November 1 has been prepared. We agreed to continue working on removal of still existing trade limits," the official added.

Before the beginning of the food wars, Turkey was one of the main importers of tomatoes to the Russian market: more than 40 percent of the harvested crop was sent to Russia. During the ban, Turkey lost more than $2 billion. Restoration of bilateral relations put the embargo into the shade. Moscow has already lifted several bans, now it's turn to resume import of the Turkish tomatoes.
