The crypto world never ceases to amaze! Recently, Tether announced that it will release a documentary about USDT and how the token has influenced the fight against inflation.
According to the Tether website, USDT celebrated 10 years on October 6. To mark the occasion, the company plans to release a documentary titled “Stability and Freedom in Chaos.” The film will showcase how USDT “has become a lifeline for millions, fighting inflation and fueling financial freedom worldwide.”
The trailer features snippets of interviews with users from Turkey, Brazil, and Argentina, who found USDT incredibly helpful amid the rapid devaluation of their national currencies. In 2023, Brazil saw widespread adoption of USDT, accounting for 80% of all crypto transactions in the country.
For those who may have forgotten, USDT was launched on October 6, 2014, as a new stablecoin built on the Bitcoin network using the Omni Layer protocol. Back then, the token was called Realcoin, but it was soon rebranded. The project has since expanded to other blockchain networks, including Ethereum, TRON, and TON.
Today, Tether positions USDT as a digital version of the US dollar. It remains the largest stablecoin by market cap, currently valued at $120 billion.
According to Paolo Ardoino, Tether’s CEO, the company’s mission is “to “bring financial inclusion to the billions of people, primarily living in developing countries, that can't have bank accounts or that live in high inflation countries.” He emphasized that the company’s priority remains serving users, especially those from developing nations, where accessing financial technologies is much harder than for wealthier citizens.
