At the close on the New York Stock Exchange, the Dow Jones rose 1.98%, the S&P 500 index rose 1.86%, the NASDAQ Composite index rose 1.59%.
The leading performer among the components of the Dow Jones index today was JPMorgan Chase & Co, which gained 7.26 points or 6.19% to close at 124.60. Visa Inc Class A rose 8.53 points or 4.29% to close at 207.56. Apple Inc rose 5.52 points or 4.01% to close at 143.11.
Shares of Dow Inc became the leaders of the fall, the price of which fell by 0.62 points (0.91%), ending the session at 67.49. Home Depot Inc was up 0.40% or 1.16 points to close at 286.03 while Honeywell International Inc was down 0.09% or 0.17 points to close at 189. .58.
Among the S&P 500 index components gainers today were Ross Stores Inc, which rose 9.57% to hit 78.75, Deere & Company, which gained 7.04% to close at 335.36, and also shares of Schlumberger NV, which rose 6.54% to end the session at 43.81.
Shares of Gap Inc became the leaders of the fall, which decreased in price by 5.49%, closing at 10.33. Shares of Autodesk Inc lost 4.13% to end the session at 183.51. Caesars Entertainment Corporation fell 3.71% to 48.25.
Leading gainers among the components of the NASDAQ Composite in today's trading were Catalyst Biosciences Inc, which rose 234.21% to hit 1.27, GeoVax Labs Inc, which gained 66.91% to close at 2.32, and also shares of Lixiang Education Holding Co Ltd, which rose 58.00% to end the session at 3.16.
Nymox Pharmaceutical Corp was the biggest loser, shedding 63.85% to close at 0.46. Shares of Inotiv Inc lost 28.31% and ended the session at 13.14. Quotes of Molecular Data Inc decreased in price by 22.40% to 0.88.
On the New York Stock Exchange, the number of securities that rose in price (2246) exceeded the number of those that closed in the red (908), while quotes of 138 shares remained virtually unchanged. On the NASDAQ stock exchange, 2209 companies rose in price, 1554 fell, and 236 remained at the level of the previous close.
The CBOE Volatility Index, which is based on S&P 500 options trading, fell 3.23% to 28.48.
Gold futures for June delivery added 0.52%, or 9.66, to $1.00 a troy ounce. In other commodities, WTI July futures rose 0.41%, or 0.45, to $110.73 a barrel. Brent crude for August delivery rose 0.95%, or 1.05, to $111.04 a barrel.
Meanwhile, in the Forex market, EUR/USD rose 1.20% to hit 1.07, while USD/JPY edged up 0.06% to hit 127.93.
Futures on the USD index fell 1.03% to 102.11.
