At the close in the New York Stock Exchange, the Dow Jones was up 0.30%, the S&P 500 was up 0.81% and the NASDAQ Composite was up 1.90%.
Salesforce.com Inc was the top performer among the components of the Dow Jones index today, up 6.60 points or 3.11% to close at 218.85. Quotes of Apple Inc rose by 4.13 points (2.37%), closing the auction at 178.44. Intel Corporation rose 1.09 points or 2.27% to close at 49.20.
The biggest losers were The Travelers Companies Inc, which shed 3.43 points or 1.85% to end the session at 181.82. Walgreens Boots Alliance Inc was up 1.05% or 0.46 points to close at 43.40, while McDonald's Corporation was down 0.97% or 2.42 points to close at 246. .83.
Among the S&P 500 index components gainers in today's trading were Twitter Inc, which rose 27.12% to 49.97, Etsy Inc, which gained 7.18% to close at 136.17, and Tesla Inc, which rose 5.61% to end the session at 1.00.
The biggest losers were Baxter International Inc, which shed 3.96% to close at 75.47. Shares of ABIOMED Inc lost 3.82% and ended the session at 325.70. Starbucks Corporation was down 3.72% to 88.09.
Leading gainers among the components of the NASDAQ Composite in today's trading were Gbs, which rose 67.95% to 1.31, Aterian Inc, which gained 46.78% to close at 3.42, and IO. Biotech Inc, which rose 33.16% to end the session at 7.55.
The drop leaders were shares of Curis Inc, which fell 33.33% to close at 1.62. Shares of GWG Holdings Inc lost 20.97% and ended the session at 4.22. Quotes of Snow Lake Resources Ltd fell in price by 19.32% to 8.10.
On the New York Stock Exchange, the number of securities that rose in price (1,758) exceeded the number of those that closed in the red (1,478), and quotes of 126 shares remained virtually unchanged. On the NASDAQ stock exchange, 2,460 companies rose in price, 1,472 fell, and 191 remained at the level of the previous close.
The CBOE Volatility Index, which is based on S&P 500 options trading, fell 5.40% to 18.57, hitting a new monthly low.
Gold Futures for June delivery added 0.47%, or 9.00, to $1.00 a troy ounce. In other commodities, WTI crude for May delivery rose 4.48%, or 4.45, to $103.72 a barrel. Futures for Brent crude for June delivery rose 3.46%, or 3.61, to $108.00 a barrel.
Meanwhile, in the Forex market, EUR/USD fell 0.74% to hit 1.10, while USD/JPY edged up 0.21% to hit 122.75.
Futures on the USD index rose by 0.34% to 98.96.
