The Senate vote regarding Donald Trump's impeachment is due to take place in the US tomorrow. However, there is little doubt that the US President will be acquitted. Today, as part of his annual address to the nation, Donald Trump delivered a report on the state of affairs in the country. For three whole years, which Trump calls "a short period of time", we have already learned the manner of how the president delivers his speech. Usually, the US leader spent an hour and a half telling how America "blossomed" under his rule and how much he did for the United States. However, this time, Trump's speech began with other events. It all started with President Trump and the speaker of Congress Nancy Pelosi not shake hands (trump refused to do this), and Mrs. Pelosi announcing the appearance of the President not with the words "it is a great honor for us to welcome the President...", but with the words "President of the United States Donald Trump". Trump should've expected this, as he has personally insulted Pelosi several times calling her "crazy".
During his speech, the US President did not mention a word about the upcoming Senate vote on his own impeachment. Instead, his speech was filled with self-congratulatory phrases about how, in three years, his administration was able to implement the "great American comeback." Naturally, Trump needed to compare the results of his reign with the results of other leaders, so his predecessor, Barack Obama, got the full program. The US leader noted that under Obama, there was an increase in crime and unemployment, America was flooded with illegal immigrants, and businesses departed outside the United States. Moreover, Trump said in his three-year presidency: "in just three years, we have abandoned the judgment that our future will be modest. Now, we are rushing forward with unthinkable speed and nothing will stop us." Trump also did not forget to note that it was under his rule that unemployment rates fell to 50-year lows, more than 7 million new jobs were created, and the stock market grew by 70%. He said that "The previous two administrations lost about 60,000 factories to America. During my cadence, the States opened 12,000 businesses, and a large number are being built at this time." Each of these statements was met with a standing ovation in the hall, however, it was only with the Republicans. The Democrats, on the other hand, sat silently in their seats, and Nancy Pelosi even studied some papers. Moreso, during his speech, Donald Trump also touched on the fight against terrorism, recalled the murder of Iranian General Qassem Suleimani, promised to end the war in Afghanistan and return American soldiers home, and boasted of a trade deal with China, which is "very beneficial to America".
But then, the reality show started. The President of the United States introduced a girl from a poor African-American family and said that she would be given a special scholarship and would be able to choose any school for her studies. Many media outlets immediately remembered that Trump used to be the host of a television show, as no President has ever made a frank game of addressing the people in public before. The US President's speech ended with a round of applause from the Republicans, who chanted "four more years!", bearing in mind the need for Trump's re-election. Meanwhile, Nancy Pelosi, who has been reading the text of Donald Trump's speech the whole time, defiantly started tearing up papers right behind the President's back.
Such events occurred in the highest political circles of the United States. It was a farce worthy of comparison with the events that have been observed in the British Parliament for two years. The best thing for the US now is to complete the impeachment case and prepare for the presidential election in November.
