In February 2025, manufacturing output in the Philippines decreased by 1.6% compared to the same month the previous year. This marks a decline from the revised 3.0% increase observed in January. The reduction in production was largely influenced by a significant drop in basic metals output, plunging by 35.6%, a sharper decline from January's 9.5% decrease. This sector alone accounted for 34.5% of the overall annual decrease. Additionally, there was a notable decrease in chemical production, down 21.1% compared to a 1.2% decline in the prior month, and in the production of basic pharmaceutical products and preparations, which fell by 16.8%, although showing some improvement from a 21.5% decline in January. Conversely, there was an increase in the output of furniture, which soared by 26.2% after a 1.6% decrease; food production rose by 12.1%, up from a 10.9% rise; and paper products saw a growth of 4.8%, compared to a 2.6% rise in the previous month. On a seasonally adjusted month-to-month basis, manufacturing output experienced a decline of 3.5%, following a 1.3% increase in the prior period.
