Offshore Yuan Steady Amid Escalating US-China Trade War

The offshore yuan stabilized near 7.31 per dollar on Friday, recovering from an earlier dip in the session as investors weighed increasing US-China trade tensions. China's Ministry of Finance announced a tariff hike on American goods, raising them to 125% from the prior 84%, effective April 12. This folllowed a clarification from the US on Thursday, indicating that its tariffs on Chinese imports have risen to 145%, above the previously indicated 125%. In a major escalation, Beijing declared that US tariffs will no longer be a consideration in bilateral trade negotiations, emphasizing that "American products no longer have a chance in China's market." Meanwhile, senior Chinese officials are set to convene on April 11 to discuss new stimulus measures aimed at supporting the housing sector, enhancing consumer spending, and accelerating technological innovation.
