Welfare of Americans above all else

No matter which President is ruling the US and whether he is Republican or Democrat. Even political jitters are not an excuse for US lawmakers to leave American nationals without financial aid. During the power transition following the fierce presidential race, the US House of Representatives and the Senate voted unanimously for a coronavirus relief package to support the population in the time of the economic crisis. Under the new bill, every American will receive $2,000 in a one-time direct payment. The draft bill was supposed to provide every citizen with $600. However, lawmakers found it appropriate to review the proposal and expand the amount of individual financial aid. Eventually, Congress passed an $892 billion stimulus package. Importantly, the size of a relief payment was increased on account of outgoing President Donald Trump. He slammed the proposed $600 and insisted on bigger benefits.

"President [Donald Trump] has signed H.R. 133, an Act making consolidated appropriations for the fiscal year ending September 30, 2021, providing coronavirus emergency response and relief, and for other purposes," White House Deputy Spokesman Judd Deere announced in his Twitter in late December. Besides, he reminded that kids would be also paid $600.

The new stimulus bill is the second largest stimulus package in US history following the bill worth $1.8 trillion passed during the first pandemic wave in March. Under the first bill, the US authorities supported 70 million Americans with $1,200 stimulus payments. Ahead of the Presidential election in November, the House of Representatives and the White House used to negotiate a new relief package worth $2 trillion but failed to come to terms.
