US President Donald Trump proposes steep cuts to foreign aid

US President Donald Trump is seeking a 21% cut in foreign aid and a steep reduction in social safety net programs. These initiatives are included in President Trump’s $4.8 trillion budget proposal for fiscal 2021.
Trump intended to slash foreign aid in his previous budget deal but faced steep resistance from Congress and did not prevail. According to experts, the House of Representatives will not give its approval to the project. Congress also does not welcome such proposals especially when they are made in the year of the presidential election.
In addition, the project of the White House leader would raise military spending by 0.3 percent to $740.5 billion for the fiscal year starting on October 1. The foreign aid proposal will be $44.1 billion in the upcoming fiscal year compared with $55.7 billion enacted in the previous year. Among other initiatives, the White House proposed a $4.4 trillion cut to federal spending over 10 years.
