German economy minister bashes Trump for dictating trade rules

German Economy Minister Peter Altmaier has sharply criticized US President Donald Trump's determination to force trade rules on other countries, saying that Germany should invest more in Iran.

The official said that a new set of economic sanctions against Iran would affect German companies doing business with Tehran, adding that the firms should continue to invest as much as they want.

Altmaier's words came after Donald Trump announced the imposition of sanctions against Iran in two stages. Washington slapped Tehran with sanctions aimed at curtailing trade in gold and the national currency as well as the automotive industry. The second round of nuclear-related sanctions will come into force on November 5, 2018.
