London rolls out tourist tax

London has introduced a tourist tax which would cost visitors 5% of a hotel stay cost, capital’s mayor Sadiq Khan said. The tax will be charged at a rate of 5% of a hotel room bill per night. Berlin has the same tourist tax rates. Thus, the price for a day of stay in London would rise to an average of £3.40.

The tax is estimated to bring up to £364 million annually to Her Majesty's Treasury.

The government of Japan also plans to introduce a tourist tax of $9, which will be charged once upon departure from the country.
