The legendary Apple Corporation was caught in the middle of a patent scandal once again. This time it is a case of a dual camera that was introduced in iPhone 7 Plus and iPhone 8 Plus. This technology belongs to Israel-based company Corephotonics that negotiated this issue with Apple but it did not get the licensed right to use this technology.
The sides did not manage to reach an understanding. According to Corephotonics, an Apple negotiator said that βit would take years and millions of dollars in litigation before Apple might have to pay something.β However, the Israeli company does not want to wait for years, so it has already filed a lawsuit. Its claims are plain β Corephotonics demands that Apple stops using its cameras and pays compensation and litigation costs.
Interestingly, the latest iPhone also has the dual camera, but this fact is not mentioned in the lawsuit as when it was composed, iPhone X was not on sale yet. Corephotonics was established in 2012 by David Medlovich, a professor at the Tel-Aviv University. His startup specializes in production of dual photo and video cameras for smartphones.
