US stocks closed lower, Dow Jones down 2.79%

At the close of the New York Stock Exchange, the Dow Jones fell 2.79% to hit a 52-week low, the S&P 500 fell 3.88% and the NASDAQ Composite fell 4.68%.

McDonald's Corporation was the top performer among the components of the Dow Jones in today's trading, up 1.09 points (0.46%) to close at 238.47. Coca-Cola Co fell 0.07 points (0.11%) to close at 61.34. Cisco Systems Inc shed 0.25 points or 0.57% to close at 43.24.

The losers were Boeing Co shares, which lost 11.14 points or 8.77% to end the session at 115.86. Salesforce.com Inc. shares rose 12.42 points (6.96%) to close at 166.03, while American Express Company shed 8.13 points (5.26%) to close at 146.29.

Leading gainers among the components of the S&P 500 in today's trading were CME Group Inc, which rose 1.55% to 202.99, Truist Financial Corp, which gained 1.50% to close at 46.64, and also shares of Duke Realty Corporation, which rose 0.98% to close the session at 50.27.

The drop leaders were shares of Signature Bank, which fell 13.67% to close at 174.05. Shares of Caesars Entertainment Corporation shed 12.88% to end the session at 39.64. Quotes Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings Ltd fell in price by 12.23% to 11.55.

Leading gainers among the components of the NASDAQ Composite in today's trading were Day One Biopharmaceuticals Inc, which rose 125.98% to 14.96, G Medical Innovations Holdings Ltd, which gained 88.32% to close at 0. 65, as well as Hillstream Biopharma Inc, which rose 75.30% to end the session at 1.35.

The biggest losers were Electric Last Mile Solutions Inc, which shed 61.59% to close at 0.20. Shares of Applied Blockchain Inc lost 52.55% and ended the session at 1.30. Quotes of TDH Holdings Inc decreased in price by 48.68% to 0.14.

On the New York Stock Exchange, the number of depreciated securities (3,100) exceeded the number of closed ones in positive territory (151), while quotes of 80 shares remained virtually unchanged. On the NASDAQ stock exchange, 3,470 companies fell in price, 484 rose, and 163 remained at the level of the previous close.

The CBOE Volatility Index, which is based on S&P 500 options trading, rose 22.59% to 34.02, reaching a new monthly high.

Gold futures for August delivery lost 2.89%, or 54.20, to hit $1.00 a troy ounce. In other commodities, WTI July futures rose 0.21%, or 0.25, to $120.92 a barrel. Brent oil futures for August delivery rose 0.16%, or 0.20, to $122.21 a barrel.

Meanwhile, in the Forex market, EUR/USD fell 1.03% to 1.04, while USD/JPY edged up 0.02% to hit 134.45.

Futures on the USD index rose 1.03% to 105.08.
