US stocks close higher, Dow Jones gains 0.97%

At the close on the New York Stock Exchange, the Dow Jones rose 0.97% to hit a monthly high, the S&P 500 index rose 1.23%, the NASDAQ Composite index rose 1.84%.

Visa Inc Class A was the top performer among the components of the Dow Jones in today's trading, up 7.35 points or 3.33% to close at 228.12. Nike Inc rose 4.33 points or 3.21% to close at 139.14. Boeing Co rose 5.64 points or 3.00% to close at 193.80.

The biggest losers were The Travelers Companies Inc (NYSE:TRV), which shed 2.95 points or 1.58% to end the session at 183.81. Chevron Corp was up 1.22% or 2.03 points to close at 164.32, while UnitedHealth Group Incorporated was down 0.48% or 2.47 points to close at 510. 73.

Leading gainers among the S&P 500 index components in today's trading were Nielsen Holdings PLC, which rose 20.31% to hit 26.72, EPAM Systems Inc, which gained 11.58% to close at 307.05, and also shares of Penn National Gaming Inc, which rose 6.48% to end the session at 44.35.

The biggest losers were Mosaic Co, which shed 5.18% to close at 64.45. Shares of CF Industries Holdings Inc shed 5.08% to end the session at 99.78. Archer-Daniels-Midland Company fell 4.88% to 87.84.

Leading gainers among the components of the NASDAQ Composite in today's trading were IGM Biosciences Inc, which rose 96.73% to hit 29.49, PhaseBio Pharmaceuticals Inc, which gained 46.09% to close at 1.68, and also shares of China SXT Pharmaceuticals Inc, which rose 45.40% to end the session at 0.29.

The drop leaders were shares of NeoGenomics Inc, which fell 29.79% to close at 12.49. Shares of Aveanna Healthcare Holdings Inc shed 26.72% to end the session at 3.95. Quotes of Stryve Foods Inc decreased in price by 24.81% to 1.50.

On the New York Stock Exchange, the number of securities that rose in price (2636) exceeded the number of those that closed in the red (620), while quotations of 122 shares remained virtually unchanged. On the NASDAQ stock exchange, 2969 companies rose in price, 973 fell, and 170 remained at the level of the previous close.

The CBOE Volatility Index, which is based on S&P 500 options trading, fell 3.72% to 18.90, hitting a new monthly low.

Gold futures for April delivery lost 1.12%, or 21.70, to hit $1.00 a troy ounce. In other commodities, WTI crude for May delivery fell 0.92%, or 0.97, to $104.99 a barrel. Brent futures for June delivery fell 0.82%, or 0.90, to $108.59 a barrel.

Meanwhile, in the Forex market, EUR/USD rose 0.98% to hit 1.11, while USD/JPY shed 0.83% to hit 122.89.

Futures on the USD index fell 0.59% to 98.47.
