Before the speech, Clinton was communicating with her supporters only via social media. It was her first public speech in front of the event's guests and her American supporters since the shock defeat.

The audience greeted Hillary with applause. The Democratic runner admitted that making the appearance "wasn't the easiest" after the election failure. “There have been a few times this past week where all I wanted to do was curl up with a good book and our dogs and never leave the house again,” the official said.

During her speech Clinton revealed her disappointment over the election defeat. Trump's victory was a surprise not only for Clinton, but for her supporters as well. Almost all pundits were sure about the Democratic candidate's victory, so the businessman's triumph was quite loud.

After the election outcome, it was unveiled that Clinton beat Trump by the number of general votes. But to secure a victory in the US presidential election, the nominee should receive the bulk of the votes of the Electoral College. The citizens of the states with the biggest elector count – such as Florida and Texas - voted for Trump, thus ensuring his victory.

Clinton's speech indicated that now her focus will be children and family.
