Friday, October 28 marks 130 years from the opening day of the main monument of America - the Statue of Liberty. Let us recall that this monument is a French present, dedicated to a century of the American independence.

A broken chain lies at her feet, in the right hand the stone lady bears a torch, and in the left one - a tablet, upon which is inscribed the date of the American Declaration of Independence. The statue's head's height, from top to chin, is 5.26m, the height from ground to tip of the torch is 93m, The Statue of Liberty (from top of the pedestal to torch) is 46m tall.

The monument was created in 1884, and, after a year, in June, 1885, it was shipped to the New York harbor. The statue was disassembled for 350 parts for more comfortable transportation and was rebuilt in a new place in four months.

In 1984 the restoration work began. Later, the memorial was added to the UNESCO World Heritage site.

The stairs to the torch were closed for security purposes in 1916. Corroded torch was moved to the main entrance, and in 1986 (during the restoration work), it was replaces by a new one, covered with gold.

The Statue of Liberty is one of the world's most photographed sights. People, wishing to see the monument, can do it with the helicopter tour over Manhattan.
