Haiti took the brunt of the hurricane. Here, the wind speed was up to 230 km per hour. Haitian authorities reported that 842 citizens were killed by the force of nature.

Currently about 350 000 Haitians need help.

Assistant of a special UN representative in Haiti said that Hurricane Matthew caused another humanitarian crisis in the country. Last time it was seen six years ago after an earthquake.

Cuba was hit by the hurricane at night while most of the citizens were asleep. The eastern part of the country bore the brunt of the disaster.
