This dish is served in many countries, for example, in Ukraine and Russia. However, in these countries, soft dumplings in the shape of a crescent are called varenik. The peculiarity of the Polish dish lies in the filling. The classic recipe of this dish is the filling made of mashed potato and cheese. As a rule, pierogies are boiled to soften, then butter or margarine are put in a pan, and pierogies are fried up until crisp. They are served wrapped in bacon or sprinkled with beef rinds. Some people also add sour cream or melted butter to the dish.

Trofie al pesto is probably the most famous dish of Northwest Italy, namely in the Liguria region, which is well-known for its delicious food. It consists of 2 main ingredients: handmade pasta trofie and traditional green pesto sauce, which includes basil, garlic, extra virgin olive oil, pine nuts, salt, and 2 types of cheese: Parmigiano-Reggiano and Pecorino from Rome, Tuscany, Sardinia, or Sicily. Usually, Trofie al pesto is served in small portions as a first course.
