Sensex Ends Lower

The BSE Sensex closed approximately 0.9% lower at 77,288.5 on Wednesday, largely driven by profit-taking activities in the banking and IT sectors amidst growing uncertainty over US tariff policies. Significant declines were observed in major stocks such as NTPC, Tech Mahindra, Zomato, Axis Bank, Bajaj Finance, Infosys, Maruti, State Bank of India, and Kotak Mahindra Bank. Despite President Donald Trump's announcement that not all proposed tariffs will meet the April 2 enforcement deadline, ambiguity remains over specific countries and sectors that will be impacted. Sectors such as IT, automotive, and pharmaceuticals in India may be less affected. Concurrently, increasing oil prices exerted additional pressure on the index, given India's status as a net importer of crude oil. On a brighter note, there was a continued influx of foreign investments.
